Spring 2017 Trend Report: How to Flaunt Your Stripes
The Spring 2017 runway took a cue from beach umbrellas, lounge chairs, and summers in Nantucket with bold, graphic stripes of all kinds: vertical, horizontal, diagonal, black, white and rainbow-inspired. In my humble opinion, the bolder, the better. However, for some of us, these colorful and thick stripes can be daunting to wear. We’ve heard rumors about horizontal stripes for years, and fear that they’ll be unflattering. But, that is not the case! If you have ever felt intimidated by this bold style, read my guide to find the stripes that will best flatter your figure:
Under 5’ 2’’: For those of us who are not so vertically inclined, make up for it with long vertical stripes. They’ll lengthen your body and add dimension to your look.
Boy Figure: When you have a ‘straight up and down’ figure, horizontal stripes are your best bet. You can also create the illusion of more curves by playing with different dimensions of striping within the same piece… for example, bold stripes that ombre into smaller stripes at your waist for the illusion of a smaller waist and more feminine hip and bust line.
Size 10+ : Avoid using thick prominent stripes and steer more toward small textural striping and diagonal plays that will follow the curve of your body in a flattering way and be a surprising camouflage to your less flattering areas.
Now that you know how to rock them, take a look at my Spring 2017 Trend Report for the ultimate outfit inspiration.
